NINEPIN ISLANDS
GETTING THERE
There are no ferries going to these uninhabited islands, so you’ll need to hire a boat from Sai Kung for the half-hour trip
Ninepin Islands are a group of interestingly shaped islands with fascinating hexagonal columns and the underwater sights are just as scenic as it is on land. Schools of fish can be encountered at a relatively shallow depth, while clownfish can be found hiding amongst the anemones at around seven metres. Go deeper and you’ll come across other marine life such as sea apples (a species of sea cucumber), octopuses, eels, annelid worms, and if you’re lucky, the rare weedy scorpionfish.
