THE MEDHUFARU

-

The Medhufaru is a Maldivian cargo vessel that was carrying construction material when it sank during the 2009 monsoon. It sits upright on the sandy seabed, with the top of the bridge at around 14 metres and the deepest section sits at 29 metres. The cement pipes that the ship was carrying are now encrusted with a variety of corals while its cement mixers provide shelter and camouflage for smaller fish. Common marine species spotted in and around the wreck include numerous nudibranch species, moray eels, stingrays, batfish and lionfish. Out in the blue, make sure to look out for predators such as tuna and wahoo.
