GETTING THERE

From Velana Internatio­nal Airport, either catch a domestic flight to Haa Alif Atoll’s Hoarafushi Airport and transfer to your resort via speedboat or have your resort organise a direct flight via seaplane.

Haa Alif Atoll, officially known as Thiladhunm­athi Uthuruburi, is another excellent option for novice divers. Wide channels and shallow sites facilitate gentle drift dives through reefs and pinnacles showcasing colourful soft and hard corals.

For those seeking some history, the Filadhoo Wreck, at a depth of just 14 metres, is a great introducti­on to wreck diving. The exciting artificial reef is cloaked in schools of snappers and fusiliers, and for the lucky ones, there’s the chance to encounter

the occasional eagle ray. If you’re seeking a greater challenge, there are more-advanced sites too, such as the submerged pinnacles of Heaven and Hell, which boast fantastic coral formations, and Ihavandhoo Channel with its cleaning stations frequented by mantas and turtles.
