Get down and dirty with The Sumatran Elephants

-

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WELL-TEMPERED SUMATRAN ELEPHANT BY GETTING UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH THEM.

(Bali) Bali Zoo has introduced a new intimate Elephant Mud Fun half-day package allowing guests to get down and dirty with the friendly Sumatran elephants while learning about their behaviour and lifestyle from experienced mahouts. Guests will learn interesting facts about these intelligent animals. It’s common to find elephants basking in mud during summer months because their high body temperature generates a great deal of metabolic heat.

With no sweat glands to relieve their internal thermometers, they rely on mud to stay cool and protect themselves from the heat because even though they look tough, elephants can actually get sunburned.

The experience begins at 7:00am when the hotel picks up and transport guests to Bali Zoo. Upon arriving at the Kampung Sumatra area, guests will receive a brief introduction while enjoying complimentary snacks, coffee or tea. “The zoo’s English-speaking mahout will share information about the gentle giants and provide guests with a selection of tropical fruit for feeding to the elephants. Guests are escorted by the mahout to the river bank to be introduced to free roaming elephants and have a chance to play, feed, interact and take photos with them,” says Lesmana Putra, General Manager of Bali Zoo.

Then, it’s shirts off and bathers on for elephant spa time! With a generous mix of earth, water and fun. Get covered in mud along with the elephants who love getting dirty. Guests will walk with the elephants down to River Wos to join them for a splash, bath and scrub down. Once the elephants are clean, guests can take photos with them before parting ways with their new friends. There are places for a shower and a change before enjoying a relaxing lunch.

Visitors are invited to explore the rest of the zoo to view its collection of over 500 rare and exotic animals that includes rare and endangered species such as the Komodo Dragon, Sumatran Tiger, Orangutan and Bali Starling. Admission also allows guests to participate in various “hands-on” animal encounter sessions where animal enthusiasts are allowed to feed, pet and take photos with a number of the denizens of the zoo.

Bali Zoo’s Elephant Mud Fun experience is designed to enlighten visitors to the behaviour of these magnificent mammals and having a fulfilling experience having interacted in one of the most unique outdoor adventures in Bali.
