Adolescent Wonderland A Collection of Indigenous Photography
ART GALLERY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA ONGOING UNTIL JANUARY 31, 2021
Naomi Hobson’s Adolescent Wonderland & Adolescent Wonderland (Revisited) constitutes 31 limited edition photographs that capture Indigenous life through the lens of an Indigenous person. Part of Tarnanthi 2020 (Open Hands Exhibition) at the Art Gallery of South Australia (AGSA), REDOT FINE ART GALLERY is honoured to have been able to facilitate this body of extraordinary photographs by Naomi Hobson.
Enjoy the playful imagery of Naomi’s hometown, the thoughtful compositions and stories she narrates in this bold set of works, which are set on a black and white background with the subject matter gloriously emblazed in colour. “In the hands of Naomi Hobson, photography is reframed. Photography has a long history as a colonising agent, used to measure and define Aboriginal people and to record their incarceration, but for Naomi it is simply a means of presenting the colourful daily life in her community of Coen, on Cape York Peninsula,” stated AGSA Artistic Director Nici Cumpston.
