SHORTAGE DRIVES RICE PRICE TO NEW HIGH

Southeast Asia Globe - - Agenda -

Lawmakers in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy are teaming up with the country’s central bank to tackle food prices amid a worrying increase in the cost of rice, a staple in the country’s kitchens. In the past two months, the cost of rice has increased by 6.1%, according to the central bank. The government is now looking to import 500,000 tonnes of rice in an attempt to overcome a shortage and keep the cost from soaring higher.
