THAILAND SLOWS DOWN ITS BULLET TRAIN

Southeast Asia Globe - - Agenda -

In a bid to cut the spiralling costs of a project that would see a bullet train travel between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Thai transport officials were instructed by Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha to lower the train’s maximum speed. Originally set to reach 300km/h, the train will instead travel at between 180 and 200km/h following the prime minister’s request, which came within weeks of a study projecting the cost of the train at $13.2 billion.
