The num­ber of peo­ple killed in road ac­ci­dents over the Thai New Year hol­i­day of Songkran, ac­cord­ing to the De­part­ment of Dis­as­ter Pre­ven­tion and Mit­i­ga­tion. Be­tween 11 and 17 April, dubbed the ‘seven dan­ger­ous days’ of Songkran, 3,742 road ac­ci­dents were recorded, most caused by drink-driv­ing and speed­ing, with 82% of crashes in­volv­ing mo­tor­cy­cles. The World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion lists Thai roads as the sec­ond most deadly in the world, be­hind Libya.
