Say ‘NO’ to Plastic

Southeast Asia Globe - - Contents -

Every month, Southeast Asia Globe features stories from organisations around the region taking action to reduce plastic use. This issue, we highlight Baby Elephant Boutique Hotel: Plastic waste is choking Cambodia and our precious oceans around the world. At Baby Elephant Boutique Hotel in Siem Reap, our Go Green team works alongside guests and the community to reduce our environmental footprint. In 2015, we partnered with a leading Australian environmental scientist for a comprehensive property environmental impact audit with the goal of achieving a 2020 Go Green vision. To date, the Go Green team’s initiatives have seen us ditch single-use plastic straws in favour of reusable bamboo straws, implement water refill stations, update recycling systems, reduce plastic, glass and kitchen waste, optimise our drainage system, kick-start an organic kitchen garden, switch to environmentally-friendly mosquito control, change to LED lights, and provide staff with access to sustainability training.

There is always more we want to do, but as Confucius said,

“it does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” www.babyele
