Unbeaten Fighters looking for a quick kill

AS THE only unbeaten team in the Cambodian Basketba ll League with 11 wins on t he trot, Extra Joss Fighters are look ing for a quick k ill follow ing t heir first-round rout of Team Respeck in t he second game of t he best-of-t hree quarterfin­al play-of fs at the Oly mpic Stadium Indoor Arena on Saturday.

Averaging close to 90 points per game, the Fighters won 82-41 against Team Respeck last week and will be difficult to beat when they hit the floor with a well-rounded squad in t he first clash of t he day at 3pm.

ALLN, a heady mix of Westerners and Filipinos, have emerged as the second-best team with t heir only loss during the round robin inflicted by the top ranked side. Last week ALLN swarmed all over Smart Dragons in a 71-33 t hrashing and are a ll set to sea l t he quarterfin­al deal in t he day’s second fixture.

Sunday offers an interestin­g fa re with Davies Paints and Blue Thunder, who narrowly lost t heir first-round games to Bayon Airlines and MSGM Beasts, respective­ly, fighting for t heir sur v iva l i n t he cr ucia l second game.

Airlines cast aside Paints 85-70 though the margin fa i led to truly reflect the intensit y of t he fight.

The Paints are determined to come up with something extra this time to ground t he Airlines and steer t he contest to a decider.

Meanwhile, MSMG Beasts, predomina`ntly made up of loca lly based Singaporea­ns and South Koreans got t he better of Blue Thunder 85-71, but may run into much stiffer resistance from t he All Khmer side in game two.

While October 8 has been set aside for t he quarterfin­al play of f deciders should t hese fixtures spill over to game t hree, t he semifinals are marked for t he next day.

The t hird-place playof f and t he title showdown have been fixed for October 15.

Defending champions Mekong Tigers had finished the round robin with 13 points and should have finished in eight h place.

But they were deducted si x points for walking of f their last game with Smart Dragons, thus pushing to t he bottom of t he table.
