VN capital sets $1.3B plan to relieve traffic

-

HANOI People’s Committee has announced plans to spend a total of 30 trillion dong ($1.3 billion) on building bridges and flyovers to comprehensively connect the capital’s traffic system and reduce traffic congestion during rush hour by 2021.

The first project will be the construction of the Tu Lien Bridge and flyover from Tu Lien Bridge-Hanoi Highway-Thai Nguyen province. The bridge is 3 kilometres long and the flyover is 9 kilometres. Total investment capital for the PPP project is about 17 trillion dong and is expected to be complete by 2021.

The committee would allocate 96 hectares from the land fund in Yen Thuong commune in Gia Lam district. The committee would make use of its right to choose investors for these projects, it said.

Explaining the right to choose investors for the project, the committee said that the project is located in a key position connecting Ho Tay (West Lake) and Co Loa Citadel. Thus, apart from technical considerations, the architectural style of the project needs fit with the rest of the capital city.

The project would boost traffic flow to the north of Hong River.

The second project is the construction of Duong 2 Bridge, which would be 0.5 kilometres long, and a flyover connecting to Bac Ninh province, which would be 4.2 kilometres long. The BOT project has total investment capital of roughly 6 trillion dong and is also expected to be complete in 2021.

A report from the committee showed that the current Duong Bridge has become seriously degraded. The city has conducted numerous repairs to ensure the safety of those crossing the bridge.

The new bridge, running parallel to the current one, would reduce traffic congestion and boost the connection between Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Lang Son provinces.

The third project is the construction of the 3-kilometre-long Tran Hung Dao Bridge crossing the Hong River. The PPP project has investment capital of 7 trillion dong and would be finished in 2019.

As planned, the committee would allocate 34 hectares in Duong Xa Ccmmune and 78 hectares in Dong Du commune in Gia Lam district, 320 hectares in Long Bien and Cu Khoi communes in Long Bien district, and about 135 hectares of land in Hong River’s islets.

The project would help connect inner districts in the east of the city and reduce traffic pressure on Long Bien and Chuong Duong bridges.
