AGR to host Ladies European Tour qualifier
FOR the second year running, Siem Reap’s award-winning Angkor Golf Resort will offer a perfect stage for Ladies European Tour Q-school prequalifier next month, opening up the prospect for future stars to experience a wide network of events.
Last year, LET added a new Lalla Aicha Tour School event to its schedule at the Sir Nick Faldo-designed AGR. It created a new destination for players from Asia and around the world to compete, giving them a chance to progress to the final stage in Morocco.
The four-round challenge will be completed from October 18-21 on the 7,279-yard championship course, home of the 2012 Handa Faldo Cambodian Classic.
Entries are still open for the upcoming event, but entrants from Japan, Hong Kong and Australia have already confirmed their participation.
Organisers are expecting the same number of participants as last year when six countries were represented with six making it to the final qualifying stage in Morocco.

It was Yan Liu of China who led the Cambodian segment with an impressive total of 268 (-20), which included a new course record of 63 (-9) in round three.
“Last year was a great success for us. We are all set to make this year’s event bigger and bet- ter. T-Galleria and DFS have come on board as main sponsors. We look forward to giving the players the best tour experience” said AGR head professional Alan Martin.
The Q-school is open for both professionals and amateurs. However, amateur players must have a handicap of plus-2 or better.
It is this rule that will hold back Cambodia’s best bet Tevy Oun from competing since her current handicap is 4.7.
The Q-school helps young, talented golfers mould their playing careers, and the rewards for getting on the Tour could be life changing.
There is immense pride attached to hosting such an event since the course has to meet certain criteria set by LET.
The most sensational story this year is of rookie Madelene Sangstrom of Sweden going through the Lalla Aicha Tour to achieve her dream of playing in the prestigious Solheim Cup for Europe against the US.
