Myan­mar el­e­vated rail fea­si­bil­ity study on­go­ing

DEPUTY Min­is­ter for Trans­port and Com­mu­ni­ca­tions Kyaw Myo said a de­tailed fea­si­bil­ity study is be­ing con­ducted to build an el­e­vated railroad in Yan­gon. “We are con­sid­er­ing two el­e­vated rail­ways. We are co­or­di­nat­ing with the Ja­pan In­ter­na­tional Co­op­er­a­tion Agency. It is just un­der dis­cus­sion, but I mean we will im­ple­ment the project.” He said the cir­cu­lar railroad is be­ing up­graded while the Min­istry of Con­struc­tion plans to im­ple­ment an el­e­vated road project to re­duce se­vere traf­fic con­ges­tion in Yan­gon with the co­op­er­a­tion of gov­ern­ment min­istries. “The trains we will use are diesel elec­tric ones. RBE trains will also be used. Ja­pan is plan­ning to send us diesel elec­tric trains.” He told the re­porters that a sub­way project was cur­rently im­pos­si­ble due to bud­get con­straints.
