Foreigners caught red handed bringing drugs
A ROMANIAN man was arrested for drug trafficking by immigration police based at the Siem Reap International Airport in cooperation with Siem Reap provincial antidrugs police and other relevant authorities.
The suspect, Narcis-Manuel Olaru, was detained around 9:55am on Wednesday, according to a report published on the General Department of Immigration’s Facebook page on Wednesday.
The report said t he suspect was arrested after aut horities found nearly 5kg of methamphetamines in his four dif ferent backpacks, while he prepared to fly to Hong Kong, China.
Both the suspect and the ev idence were transferred to Siem Reap prov incia l police, in accordance wit h lega l procedures.
National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD) spokesperson Meas Vyrith told The Post on Wednesday that the authorities are currently in pursuit of other suspects involved in the case. He declined to disclose further details at the time.
In a separate case, a Lao nationa l, identified as Nguan Lae, 40, was detained by Stung Treng prov incia l Militar y Police at 10 :42am on Wednesday near countr y boundar y post number 36, located in Samaki commune’s Kham Phan v illage in Stung Treng town.
Prov incia l Milita r y Police deputy commander Uy Kvai, who is in charge of combating cross-border drug t ra fficking said: “After t he arrest, police found 27 packages of WY pills, tota lling more t han 5,000 pills and weighing over 1kg, which were hidden on his person.
“Police are current ly preparing a case, and will send the suspect and the narcotics to t he prov incia l court in accordance with lega l procedures.”
