Ovechkin achieves most NHL points by Russian

ALEX Ovechkin overtook Sergei Fedorov Tuesday for the most regular-season points scored in the NHL by a Russian-born player as the Washington Capitals beat Vancouver 3-2. Ovechkin’s first-period assist was enough to see him break a tie with Fedorov as he moved to 1,180 points in his 14 NHL seasons. The 33-year-old Capitals captain broke the record in his 1,055th NHL game – 193 games fewer than Fedorov. “When you come to the NHL, you just had a dream of scoring one goal or two. Now to be No1 on the all-time [Russian] list, it’s pretty amazing,” said Ovechkin, who led the Capitals to their first Stanley Cup title last season.
