KTV shootout ends in the arrest of three

TWO Chinese and a Cambodian national have been detained by Banteay Meanchey provincial Military Police after a man was shot at a karaoke parlour in Poipet town’s Poipet commune in the early hours of Monday, leaving a Chinese man seriously injured.

Deputy provincial Military Police commander Bun Nam Eang told The Post on Monday that the injured man was shot in the right thigh and three people were arrested and questioned pending further investigation.

“I have questioned the suspects and am working with the court prosecutor. I cannot tell you the reason for the shooting or the names of the suspects,” he said.

According to a local news report, the incident occurred at around 4am on Monday.

A group of about eight men allegedly attacked another group of customers with guns, knives, and sticks at the La Fira karaoke parlour. After arriving by car, with some wearing masks, they began to hack and shoot at the other group.

The three suspects were identified as Wen Lin, 58, and Li Hao, 32 – both Chinese nationa ls – and Sok Sumsak, 61, a Cambodian nationa l. Five karaoke employees were a lso detained on suspicion of attack ing t he Chinese group.

Nam Eng said the shooting was classified as “intentional use of violence by using a firearm with aggravating circumstances” according to the Criminal Code.

The provincial court has ordered La Fira karaoke parlour to close temporarily.
