Takeo woman, Kandal man both hacked to death
THE Takeo provincial court on Sunday afternoon charged a man with premeditated murder after he allegedly hacked his wife to death with an a xe and a sick le on Saturday.
Sem Socheat, the chief of the prov i nc i a l pol ic e’s s er iou s c r i mes bureau, on Monday identif ied t he man as Pal Phoeun, 48.
Phoeun was sent to court the day after he was arrested on Saturday in Angkor Borei district’s Prek Phtorl commune. “Prov incia l invest igating judge Nou Dara cha rged him w it h premed itated murder a f ter questioning and ordered police to put him in pre-tria l detention at t he prov incia l prison,” Socheat said.
Angkor Borei district police chief Phy Chhon said on Sunday the man wa s a r re ste d a f ter hack i ng h i s 52-year-old wife, Muth Kheang, with an a xe and a sick le when she was sitting down making banana cakes in t heir k itchen.
K hea ng is su r v ived by her f ive children, aged bet ween 14 a nd 22 yea rs, he sa id. “The suspect was ex t remely jea lous a nd t hreatened his wife not to speak with other men of his age in the v illage. He is also an a lcohol ic – but he had not been drinking on the day of the incident,” Chhon said.
In a separate case in Kandal province, a 30-year-old man was a lleged ly hacked by his f r iend wit h a meat cleaver on Saturday morning a nd t hen died on t he way to t he hospit a l. Pol ic e have a r rested a suspect.
Sa’ang district police chief Seng Socheat on Sunday identified the victim as 30-year-old Pong Horng from Sa’ang district’s Prasat commune.
He told The Post t hat t he 34-yearold suspect lived in Kien Svay dist r ict’s Kok i Thom commune. The t wo beca me f r iends a nd used to work together in Thailand, Socheat said.
“According to t he suspect’s confession, t he v ictim had a secret love af fa ir wit h t he suspect’s girlfriend. That’s why he beca me so f ur ious a nd vengef u l t hat he hacked his friend to death,” he said.
Socheat said the suspect is being questioned by Judicial Police officials at the Kandal provincial police headquarters in preparation to present a case in court on Monday.
