THIRTY-SEVEN people, including three minors, were detained after Phnom Penh Municipal Police and the Department of Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection raided the Orchid massage parlour in Sen Sok district’s Phnom Penh Thmey commune on Monday.

The 27-room massage parlour is believed to have offered sexual services 24 hours a day for between $30 and $50, a police report said.

Among the detainees are 23 women, three managers, four staff, a security guard and six clients. The minors were between the ages of 16 and 17 years old, according to the police report.

The women and minors have been sent to the Department of Social Affairs in Phnom Penh, while officials continued to question the managers.

Police said the managers would share a cut of the money brought in from the business.

Anti-Human Trafficking and Juveniles Protection Department head Keo Chea said on Tuesday that police allowed individuals “not to be related to the case to return home”.

“The crackdown and detention was executed after days of surveillance by the department’s forces,” Chea said.

Chiv Pally, the deputy director of the department which comes under the Minsitry of Interior, said: “The initial information provided to me did not include [police] reports.

“I was only informed that there was a crackdown on a massage parlour that secretly offered sexual service. The case is now being handled by Phnom Penh Municipal Police”.
