Virus-infected Chinese to be discharged from hospital
THE only person to have tested positive for coronavirus in Cambodia has recovered completely and will leave quarantine on Monday, the Ministry of Health said.
Jia Jianhua, 60, the Chinese national that two weeks ago tested positive for the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019nCoV ), will walk out of the hospital where he was being kept in isolation, Ministry of Health spokesman Ly Sovann said on Sunday.
The latest tests from the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge says Jia has completely recovered after 14 days in quarantine at Preah Sihanouk Province Referral Hospital, Sovann said. Jia’s family members, who were also being kept in quarantine as a precaution, will also be discharged on Monday.
Jia travelled from Wuhan city in China, where the outbreak originated, to Sihanoukville with three family members. Their aeroplane landed at the province’s international airport on January 23.
On January 25, he developed a high fever, runny nose, and other flu-like symptoms, and on January 27, Cambodian experts confirmed he had contracted the virus. His family members tested negative.
“The patient who suffered from a respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus has recovered. He will be allowed to leave the hospital on Monday, January 10,” Sovann said, adding that none of the passengers in the flight that brought Jia from Wuhan city to Si hanoukville has shown symptoms of infection.
Sovann said no new cases of the coronavirus has been reported in the Kingdom.
“No new cases have been found. But the spread of the diseases continues in China, so we must remain vigilant. More than 2,000 emergency response officers and doctors trained to respond to epidemics will continue to investigate any suspicious cases in the country,” he said.
He said doctors will continue to monitor passengers along the borders with Thailand,
Laos and Vietnam, and at the i nt e r nat i onal a i r por t s i n Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville.
Also, doctors from the Institut Pasteur du Cambodge are travelling around the country to test people. The Ministry of Health has built two laboratories in the building that houses the ministry to conduct tests.
Meantime, the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation rejected rumours that a man from Yemen who on Sunday lost consciousness at Phnom Penh Inter national Airpor t was infected with the virus. The SSCA spokesperson told The Post the man fainted because he was drunk and lacked sleep. The man has been taken to Royal Rattanak Hospital for treatment, he said.
