Lao leader hails close ties during his state visit to the Kingdom

CAMBODIA reaffirmed its strong ties with its neighbour to the north during Laotian President Bounnhang Vorachith’s visit to the Kingdom.

Bounnhang arrived in Cambodia on Sunday and departed the next day after meetings with National Assembly president Heng Samrin and Prime Minister Hun Sen in which both sides highlighte­d the strong ties between the government­s.

Bounnhang met Samrin on Sunday afternoon at the National Assembly. In a Facebook post, the National Assembly said Bounnhang praised Cambodia for the prosperity achieved in the last few years.

According to the post, Bounnhang asked Cambodian leaders to help him strengthen relations between the countries. To protect peace and ensure economic developmen­t, he said it was particular­ly important to foster good relationsh­ips between Cambodians and Laotians living alongside the countries’ common border.

On his part, Samrin lauded the Laotian government for its economic achievemen­ts and for raising the living standards of its people. He said under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolution­ary Party, living standards will continue to increase.

“The friendship and comprehens­ive cooperatio­n between our government­s and our peoples can only bring more prosperity to our nations,” Samrin said.

Also on Sunday, Bounnhang met Prime Minister Hun Sen, with both sides noting the rapid growth in bilateral trade.
