Drug cases drop 10% in Jan-May

- Nov Sivutha

IN THE first four months of this year, the National Police arrested 5,323 people and seized more than 600kg of drugs in 2,387 cases. This represents a 10-per-cent decrease over the same period last year.

According to Ministry of Interior’s Anti-drug Department report seen by The Post on May 7, authorities cracked down on 3,572 drug crimes, arresting 7,041 people and confiscating 330kg of drugs in the same period last year.

Anti-Drug department deputy director In Song said on May 9 attributed the drop in drug offences to the lockdown in the capital, towns, and some provinces, especially in April.

Song said Cambodia is pursuing its fight against drug crimes despite Covid-19.

“Our authorities will continue to investigate and crack down on crimes,” Song said.
