S’pore asked to pave way for Kingdom’s agri goods

MINISTER of Commerce Pan Sorasak has requested newly appointed Singapore ambassador to Cambodia Teo Lay Cheng to facilitate the imports of agricultur­al products from the Kingdom.

The request was made during a meeting between Sorasak and Teo on promoting trade between the two ASEAN member states at the ministry on May 20.

Sorasak said Cambodia has abundant agricultur­al productsin­cludingman­go,banana, Pailin longan, Kampot pepper, turmeric, coconut, dragon fruit and rice, which have been exported into the region and the world.

“We requested coordinati­on with Singapore companies in importing agricultur­al products from Cambodia and

in business matching to promote trade in the ASEAN region,” he said

The minister noted that Cambodia had made great efforts to improve business environmen­t and attract more investors, especially through its enforcemen­t of the intellectu­al property law

and the protection of trademarks and brands.

Despite the Covid-19 crisis, bilateral trade between Cambodia and Singapore reached more than $308 million in 2020, with the former exporting $87 million worth of merchandis­e to the city-state.
