MUD AND MUSIC FEST 2019

Mud & Music Fest 2019

- Words by Michelle Narang

Now, I wasn’t there – but I’m told Canada Day weekend 2014 in Alix, Alberta was a party like no other. Chaos and debauchery mixed with mud and music made for a weekend to remember. Tail Creek Raceway hosted an epic combination of off-road motorsports and a musical line-up that should have left a crater where the stage was. Fast-forward to 2019 – and their BaaaAACK…The Tail Creek Mud and Music Fest RETURNS in 2019 – FULL THROTTLE! That’s not to say that nothing has been going on between then and now, but nothing like what they’ve got planned this time around.

I can’t think of a better way to spend Canada Day – even if muddin’ just ain’t your jam – the INSANELY RAD concert line-up certainly will be! THE MUSIC: Four-time Juno Award winner: Our Lady Peace Eight-time Billboard 100 #1 hit maker and BC’s own: Theory of a Deadman Juno Award winner and Canadian favourite: I Mother Earth Toronto Rockers, Danko Jones Grammy Award winner: EVERLAST

Other names including Pop Evil, grandson, The Standstills, TheWILD!, and Age of Days. Central Alberta will not be getting any sleep Canada Day weekend!

The thing about this event – there really is something for everyone. Organizers have done a great deal of strategic, thoughtful planning to ensure that everyone gets what they came for. Planning the layout and locations of camping, stage, race pits, vendors and more, has been done to ensure optimal enjoyment for all. If history dictates

anything; you’re going to want to get out there early. It’s one road in to the party of the year, and it’s one long, country road. My advice? Take. Friday. Off.

As well…Tail Creek organizers have pulled out all the stops for the “Mud” portion of Mud and Music!

THE MUD:

Drawing on the years of expertise, knowledge and camaraderie gained from years and years of hosting various 4x4 events onsite – Jason Jahner, landowner and organizer is perfectly positioned among the off-road community to pull off an event that brings together a multitude of classes and competitors from all corners of the off-road landscape. Punisher Racing co-owner and Ultra4 circuit veteran, Ryan Stambaugh calls this event a “good, old-fashioned, back to our roots, off-road competition.” Spectators will be treated to a sampling of everything from street legal, stock to full-on, purpose built pro-class rigs and absolutely everything in between. The event will certainly cater to the spectator; there is no outfield racing at all – infield only; which means every minute of competition will be visible from the stands.

The weekend also includes the recently announced $5000 Off-road Hill Climb and Shootout which will be sure to draw a crowd – of racers and spectators. Taking place June 29th and 30th and open to all tech-approved (by either Outlaw or Punisher/Ultra4) rigs – this event offers two chances to lay down the fastest time on the for the cash prize and bragging rights! Participants will be running the infield obstacles, a short trail course and the left side of the famed “TCR Hill.”

So, for anyone who was worried that the Punisher/Ultra4 merger and schedule change meant no more Canada Day fun at Tail Creek – you can now rest easy. Emphasis on the ‘rest’ because Canada Day just got outta hand. With three nights of music and two full days of mud and fun; a long weekend camping with friends and family – there really is no question where I will be celebrating our great nations birthday this July long weekend.
