BIG SKY OVERLAND RALLY
Last year the inaugural Big Sky Overland Rally took place in Livingston, Montana. The Livingston Fairgrounds is located right up against the Yellowstone River, with a jawdropping view of the Absorka-Beartooth range, the tallest Mountains in Montana. Adventure travelers came from all over to enjoy camaraderie, learning opportunities, and exploration opportunities in Montana.
A few top caliber instructors provided high-quality classes including Bob Wohlers of the Off-Road Safety Academy, Dan Dyk from Overland Experts, and Clay Croft of Expedition Overland. There
were also vendor booths and exhibition vehicles as well as a guided trail run going on during the day. For 2019, class offerings will include vehicle-based topics such as off-road driving, repair, and recovery as well as more expansive topics like international travel and fly-fishing. Several women-specific classes will be available in a variety of these topics. Attendees can also participate in guided trail runs, social events and prize drawings.
The Big Sky Overland Rally is unique in that the founders are locals who are passionate about their state and active in the community. Montana features large amounts of public land and a vibrant and growing outdoor recreation economy, and the event highlighted that. The Montana Office of Outdoor Recreation, an organization that promotes local outdoorcentric businesses and connects them with resources, sponsored the 2018 event. A representative of the National Forest Service also had a booth at the event with plenty of great information for campers.
The 2019 event will be taking place on July 26-28th. You can find out more at bigskyoverlandrally.com
