The Hockey News - Money & Power

AN EXCELLENT FUNDRAISER, KELLEHER had been a boon to the USA Hockey Foundation for years before getting promoted to his current post in 2017. A former college player himself with Brown University, Kelleher is also a level 5-certified coach, so he’s far from a bureaucrat. Kelleher also had to steer USA Hockey through a difficult year, one which saw beloved assistant executive director (and Olympic team GM) Jim Johannson pass away unexpectedly. Johannson’s replacement, John Vanbiesbrouck, was a surprising choice – the racial-slur incident from his OHL coaching days in Sault Ste. Marie has not been forgotten – but if the former NHL goaltender can keep the national teams winning, some of that shock will wear off. Several of the top young talents in the game today (Auston Matthews, Jack Eichel, Jack Hughes) were developed by USA Hockey’s own National Team Development Program. – RYAN KENNEDY
