The Hockey News - Money & Power

IF YOU THINK CHRIS Johnston, a.k.a. ‘C.J.,’ is everywhere, that’s because he is. He’s the hardest-working boots-on-the-ground media member in hockey, because he gives so much of himself to it. “I wanted to be a hockey writer since I was five, so whenever I got the opportunity, I just didn’t want to leave anything on the table,” Johnston said. “Especially during the season, it’s on my mind 24/7, and I make a lot of personal sacrifices because I love doing it so much.” Starting off as a writer before branching into radio and TV, he’s following the path of a young Bob McKenzie. On top of being one of the best big-scoop writers working, he’s a radio mainstay and, of course, part of Hockey Night in Canada’s intermission panel alongside Ron MacLean, Elliotte Friedman and Nick Kypreos. Johnston says he felt like a rookie in Year 1, deferring to his more experienced peers, but has gained confidence as a sophomore. He knows he belongs now. So do hockey fans. – MATT LARKIN
