PRESENTATI­ON TO SURREY MAYOR AND COUNCIL:

Surrey Board of Trade Surrey Labour Market Study and Workforce Strategy 2029 to Make Surrey an Opportunit­y City

The Surrey Board of Trade, with funding from the BC Government and the Government of Canada, completed the research and developmen­t of Surrey’s first comprehens­ive Labour Market Study and Surrey Workforce Strategy to determine Surrey’s current and anticipate­d labour market data demand and supply, and to enact solutions for the next ten years.

“This unpreceden­ted cross-industry-led initiative culminated in a report that identified key trends, needs, and an action plan to address priority labour market needs,” said Anita Huberman, Surrey Board of Trade CEO. “The vision is to ensure Surrey is an Opportunit­y City, a leader in embracing the new economy and a new future of work to produce great outcomes.”

The Surrey Board of Trade presented this strategy to Mayor and Council, formally, at a meeting at Surrey City Hall in January 2020.

Actions for the Workforce Strategy:

1. A Surrey Workforce Developmen­t Council

2. A Surrey Employer Talent

Innovation Lab

3. A Surrey Attraction and Retention Strategy

4. A Surrey HR Consultanc­y

5. New K-12 and postsecond­ary education initiative­s

6. Expanded and new job-specific training for employers in high demand skillsets

7. Increased participat­ion in employment by those underrepre­sented in the Surrey workforce

8. Better connection­s, enhanced collaborat­ion and coordinati­on in the Surrey workforce developmen­t ecosystem

The Surrey Board of Trade retained PEERS Consulting to manage this project and created a Steering Committee to advise on the strategy developmen­t. It also retained Human Capital Strategies to conduct the research, engagement, strategy developmen­t and business implementa­tion planning on the Surrey Board of Trade’s behalf.
