Surrey Board of Trade Applauds BC Government on New Surrey Hospital Investment
On December 9, 2019, the BC Government announced the location of a new hospital for Surrey.
Surrey’s new hospital will be built in the Cloverdale town centre of Surrey, beside the Kwantlen Polytechnic University campus at 5500 180 Street. The new Surrey hospital will have inpatient beds, an emergency department, operating rooms, laboratory and diagnostic services, and outpatient services.
“Surrey has needed a new hospital for many years given our increasing population,” said Anita Huberman, CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade. “A new hospital, however, is only a part of needed health care infrastructure. New and continued methodologies and partnerships for preventive care – to prevent illnesses or diseases – is a must in BC’S health care industry.”
“The Surrey Board of Trade has been working with medical professionals, locally and internationally, to advocate and build partnerships for a system that would alleviate the pressure on the current healthcare model. The Surrey Board of Trade will also look at strategies to address labour shortages critical to the health care industry.”
The new Surrey hospital is another way to continue instigating Surrey’s health care industry to innovate medical technologies and equipment, which will also assist with the recruitment and retention of top surgical talent.
“This matters to the Surrey Board of Trade because all of Surrey’s economy depends on a strong health care system.”
