The Surrey Board of Trade’s engagement with the BC Government last year was very helpful for them to lay the groundwork for the implementation of the Temporary Foreign Worker Protection Act, as well as to inform the design of the online portal.

The final implementation stage is bringing in the requirement for TFW employers to register with the Temporary Foreign Worker Protection Unit. The BC Government is targeting this to happen in late Fall 2020. The Surrey Board of Trade wants to ensure that those employers who need to register will have time to do so. The online onboarding process should not take longer than 15-20 minutes to complete. There will be no charge to register as an employer. The Surrey Board of Trade has a digital information session on November 4 at 1pm to provide an overview of the Employer Registry.
