Pump­kin Fest launched planned

The eighth an­nual Val­ley Pump­kin Fest will kick off next week in Ber­wick.

This year’s fes­ti­val will be launched at Wheatons, 518 Shaw Road, Ber­wick on Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. Mu­sic, food and dig­ni­taries will open the fes­ti­val that cel­e­brates the bounty of the land. The pub­lic is in­vited to at­tend.

The “Val­ley Pump­kin Fest” cel­e­brates agri­cul­ture, cui­sine and cul­ture of the fall sea­son in the An­napo­lis Val­ley and builds upon the re­gion’s ex­ist­ing as­sets: u-picks, farm mar­kets, winer­ies and more.

A num­ber of events are planned across the Val­ley, in­clud­ing the 28th an­nual Wind­sor-West Hants Pump­kin Weigh-off on Oct. 6 at the Hants County Ex­hi­bi­tion grounds and the 14th an­nual Pump­kin Re­gatta on Oct. 14 in Wind­sor.

Closer to home, Kentville’s Pump­kin Peo­ple Fes­ti­val are themed, “Lights, Cam­era, Pump­kins!” this year. Pixar and DreamWorks Movie Scenes will be on dis­play Oct. 6-28, with over 300 Pump­kin Peo­ple char­ac­ters ap­pear­ing all over Kentville. A new event for Kentville this year is Oc­to­ber­fest on Oct. 6 in Cen­tre Square and Kings Arm Pub.

Aca­dia Univer­sity will hold the 20th Val­ley Har­vest Marathon on Oct. 6-7, with events for all age cat­e­gories.

The Val­ley Pump­kin Hunt Con­test, with new lo­ca­tions, will be of­fered again this year, giv­ing area res­i­dents the op­por­tu­nity to hunt for spe­cial pump­kins us­ing clues or geo­caching co­or­di­nates.
