The guest speaker for the March 10 meeting was Bill Davenport, Director, Valley Care Pregnancy Centre. It began 20 years ago in Kentville. Donations come from individuals, churches and some businesses as it does not receive any government funding. The programs include prevention, intervention and restoration. They also go into local schools to advise students what support they can receive from them.

June Sceerey presented Davenport with some baby afghans that were made by A Time for All Things and a baby quilt that June had quilted.

At February`s meeting, we were pleased to have Edith Menzies, family services chair of Habitat for Humanity as guest speaker. The first Nova Scotia Habitat for Humanity Chapter was started in 1992, and in 2009, the Annapolis Valley chapter began. Habitat for Humanity is a community-based, non-profit organization working for a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Homeowners are selected based on their need for housing, their ability to repay a mortgage and their willingness to partner with Habitat.
