Kingston Lions host international cycling youth

- COMMUNITY - Submitted by Pat Nixon

On July 22-23, the Kingston Lions hosted a group of cyclists from American Youth Foundation (AYF).

This has become an annual tradition for the Kingston Lions and one the group welcomes in its ongoing support of youth. The group of cyclists, ranging in age from 13 to 18, including a counsellor, were on a 16- day cycling and camping tour of Nova Scotia.

As in previous years, the cyclists stopped off for an overnight stay at the Kingston Lions Hall, which is normally their only inside accommodation and meals for their entire trip. They take this time to conduct minor repairs and adjustments to their bikes and to clean and freshen up for the next leg of their Nova Scotia Adventure.

King Lion Pat Nixon, Lions Vern Mullen, Mac Caines, Len Gregory were on hand to serve them up a hearty breakfast prior to their departure and present them with a banner and pins from the Kingston Lions as token of their short stay.

The American Youth Foundation inspires people to discover and develop their personal best, to seek balance in mental, physical, social and spiritual living and to make a positive difference in their communities and in the wider world. They are a nonprofit youth development organization that engages thousands of youth in programming year round. The groups that the Lions normally host come from a summer camp program based out of Camp Merrowvista in New Hampshire.
