Hockey season kicks off in Bridgetown
Chipman Memorial tournament to get underway Oct. 21-23
The 15th annual Colin Chipman Memorial Tournament will kick off the hockey season at the Bridgetown and District Memorial Arena Oct. 21-23.
Steve Clayton, Bridgetown Community Recreation Association president, said this tournament has been a popular seasonal opener for the past 15 years.
“The tournament is held in memory of Colin Chipman, a young man from Tupperville area whose passion for hockey was well known,” said Clayton.
Chipman played in Bridgetown Minor Hockey for the Western Valley Spartans and the NS Explosion team in Halifax.
“An up-and-coming young sport player, Colin made a difference in his community so the Bridgetown community created a lasting memorial to this young man,” Clayton said.
The Chipman family and community continue to support the kick-off tournament.
The tournament is a major boost for the region and an economic generator to the local economy, added Clayton. It includes Bantam A and B teams from Halifax Regional Municipality and Southwestern Nova Scotia.
“There will be 12 teams and their families in Bridgetown that weekend to participate,” he said.
All proceeds go to Bridgetown Minor Hockey and play starts Oct. 21 at noon, with free admission to the games. There are 50/50 draws throughout the weekend.
The championship game will be being played Oct. 23 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Check the schedule for more game times, which will be available on the county website at AnnapolisCounty.ca.
“This is entertaining hockey and has been embraced by the greater Bridgetown community. We encourage and welcome new and existing spectators for a weekend of fast-paced, entertaining hockey,” said Clayton.
