At least two candidates seeking Kings South Progressive Conservative nomination
At least two candidates are seeking the Progressive Conservative nomination for Kings South in the upcoming provincial election.
Peter Harrison and Brenda Newcombe have both announced intentions to seek the nomination on April 27.
Harrison, of Port Williams, is a graduate of Horton District High School and Acadia University. Having been around the political scene for some time, Harrison remembers his first elections with candidates such as How, Kinsman and Kimball.
“We need another strong local representative that understands the history of the riding and wants to represent the concerns of the people,” says Harrison. “Things like healthcare, roads and education have been neglected for too long.”
Harrison says it’s time for change, and it starts with stopping cuts that hurt sectors like healthcare, highway maintenance and the education system, adding: “no province has ever cut its way to prosperity.”
Newcombe, a school principal and part-time professor from Falmouth, is an Acadia University graduate and has 29 years of education experience.
“For too long, our education system, healthcare and infrastructure have been neglected,” says Newcombe. “I hear from community members who are frustrated at the limited services that are available, not to mention that high taxes we pay in this province.”
An avid volunteer, Newcombe has volunteered with several organizations such as Family and Children Services, serves on the board of directors for Kings Meadows Home, and volunteered her time with the Heart and Stroke Society. Of late, she has been volunteering in Belize to help improve its education system.
“I have a lot to offer with my work and volunteer experience, I’m not shy of hard-work and I want the best for our community,” says Newcombe.
Both Harrison and Newcombe believe it is time for a change in Kings South, and both advocate for a Jamie Baillie government.
