ECMA award comes to Kings County, again

At the East Coast Music Awards Kentville’s Laura Macdonald won her second award in a row for Graphic/media Artist of the Year.

Deep Hollow Print, Macdonald’s one-woman letterpres­s print shop and graphic design business, picked up the award for the second consecutiv­e year.

Mitchell Pineo of Berwick is half of the Halifax-based duo, Pineo & Loeb, which won the award for Dance Recording of the Year for their recording Soul Shakin’.

The electronic music duo, who began working together in 2011, play DJ sets and write their own music, producing multiple successful remixes and original tracks between them.

Based in Wolfville, Sound of Pop was nominated as Company of the Year, as was Wolfville’s Kory Bayer who got the nod as Live Sound Engineer of the Year. Bayer moved to Wolfville from Japan in 2013.

Among the showcase artists at the ECMA weekend were Matt Andersen and Ian Janes, who both call the Valley home.

Unique Indian screening

Maritime Indian Movies are presenting the film ‘Bahubali - The Conclusion’ until May 5.

When Shiva, the son of Bahubali, learns about his heritage, he begins to look for answers. His story is juxtaposed with past events that unfolded in the Mahishmati Kingdom.

The film is an Indian epic historical fiction film directed by S. S. Rajamouli that will be screen in Tamil with English subtitles at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville.

Tickets are $25 adults and $10 children.

See some Ibsen

The World in Wolfville presents a screen version of

Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen on Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m.

Hedda and Tesman have just returned from their honeymoon and the relationsh­ip is already in trouble. Trapped but determined, Hedda tries to control those around her, only to see her own world unravel.

Tickets are $20 and they are only available at the door.

Special day at Ross Creek

On Saturday, May 6 from 1-5 p.m. there will be a day full of art activities and a taste of the Ross Creek Centre for the Arts Summerarts camp experience. It will begin with sharing the work of contempora­ry dancers in residence, followed by hands-on art activities for all ages, nature walks, and camp-inspired fun.

Entomologi­st, Dr. Paul Manning, a local boy who became a Rhodes Scholar to follow the path of dung beetles, will lead a bug walk.

Ross Creek’s first volunteer expo is also set for May 6. A community supper will take place at 5 p.m. followed by a campfire.
