Kentville to offer lots of summer recreation opportunities

- KENTVILLE, NS

Kentville recreation has lined up a summer of activity with 17 different youth programs planned.

For children ages five to 12 there is everything from creative computing to wheeling adventures. Mackenzie Pardy from Port Williams will be instructing several courses in film and photography.

Youth 12 to 15 can take various leadership camps and during the week of July 17 there will be a Girls Unite program.

Director of Parks and Recreation Rachel Bedingfield reports the town’s tennis courts are also now resurfaced.

“There are new posts and new nets as well,” she said, “and we drew pickleball lines.”

The town brought in a firm from New Brunswick called Playteck Enterprises to repair the tennis court surfaces.

According to Bedingfield, there are very few companies in Atlantic Canada who are as skilled as Playteck.

Cangaroo Tennis is in its seventh year of offering tennis camp instruction with the Town of Kentville. Classes run all summer long for children ages four to 12.

Also for the first time, Tennis Canada Development Lessons/ Leagues are every weekday evening. Contact the Town of Kentville to register or visit www. cangarootennis.ca.

Try Hula Hooping:

Fitness instructor Michelle Barkhouse is holding regular Hula Hoop classes at Oakdene Park in Kentville on Monday evenings.

She volunteers to teach a hula hoop class for 30 minutes each Monday at 7 p.m.

“My goal this summer is to get adults active and have fun. Those who can’t hula hoop can dance to the music for 15 minutes.”

She even held a special session on June 24 that she called Canada150warmup.

According to Barkhouse, this is a national initiative born right here in the Annapolis Valley.
