Car hits, house, animals run free, police kept busy

A car smashed into a house, dogs and horses were loose on roads, and one guy was charged without much in the way of paperwork for his vehicle, and lots of people were stopped for speeding.

Annapolis District RCMP dealt with a total of 128 calls for service from Nov. 13 to the end of the day on Nov. 19.

Following are highlights of the week that had police answering 128 calls:

-- Nov. 13 at 8:10 a.m. at Bridgetown. Police received a report of a white German Shepherd running on a lawn on Granville Street. The dog was reported to be friendly and had been running around all night. Animal control was advised and dispatched as well, but the dog was not located.

-- Nov. 13 at 9:20 a.m. at Bear River. Police received a report that a rented wood splitter had been stolen. Police went to the scene and have started an investigation. The stolen item was added to Canadian Police Information Centre’s database.

-- Nov. 13 at 5:27 p.m. at Paradise. Police were called to a motor vehicle crash after a deer hit a car. The deer hit the front fender causing damage to the driver’s side headlight, fender, bumper and driver’s side door. It also caused the side airbags to deploy. The driver had an apparent broken collarbone. EHS also attended.

-- Nov. 13 at 7:37 p.m. at Nictaux. Police have charged a 36-year-old man with driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s licence, without insurance and registration and for displaying a licence plate that did not match the vehicle. The total in fines, if convicted, would be $1,932.50.

-- Nov. 13 at 8:52 p.m. at Gates Mountain. Police received a complaint of a person uttering threats. Police went to the scene and following an investigation arrested a 33-year-old woman for intoxication and took her to cells. She was released the next day.

-- Nov. 14 at 2:11 p.m. at Upper Granville. Police received a complaint of theft of car parts from a vehicle in a driveway beside a garage. A black Mercedes SL500 is missing the front inner fender and a headlight assembly.

-- Nov. 14 at 5:51 p.m. at Middleton. Police have arrested a man after a vehicle on Bridge Street attempted to evade a traffic stop and accelerated backward into a house, destroying the veranda. There were children in the house and many people out walking on the busy street. The 21-year-old man from East Torbrook was charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Accident, and Failing to Provide the Particulars of an Accident to Police.

-- Nov. 16 at 8:09 p.m. at Wilmot. Police have charged a 31-year-old woman with operating a motor vehicle that was unregistered. If found guilty she will pay a fine of $180. She also received warnings for driving without insurance and failing to have two headlamps.

-- Nov. 16 at 11:54 p.m. at Meadowvale. Police received a complaint of a traffic hazard. Two horses were loose and running on Highway 201. Police located a person who said the horses were on their front yard and they knew the owner. Police went to the owner’s home and the owner went to retrieve his horses.

-- Nov. 17 at 9:09 p.m. at Meadowvale. A citizen flagged down police and advised there was a beagle on the loose on Highway 201. Police were able to befriend the animal and did door-to-door inquiries but were unable to find the owner. The dog was taken to a local kennel and grooming facility for the night.

-- Nov. 18 at 3:34 p.m. at Spa Springs. Police have charged a 27-year-old man for being intoxicated in public. He was given a ticket and if found guilty will pay a fine of $134.

-- Nov. 18 at 3:56 p.m. at Spa Springs. A 27-year-old man was charged with illegal possession of liquor. If found guilty he will pay a fine of $467.50.

-- Nov. 18 at 10:18 p.m. at Cornwallis Park. Police conducted a checkstop on Highway 1. Ten vehicles were checked with no infractions noted. Police conducted three additional checkstops in Annapolis County during the week.

-- Nov. 18 at 10:58 p.m. at Lequille. Police charged a 19-yearold woman with speeding. She was in access of 31 kilometres an hour above the speed limit on Highway 101. If found guilty she will pay a fine of $410. During the week, police issued ticks or warnings to drivers of 22 other vehicles in relation to speeding violations.
