Paul O’brien performs at King’s Theatre

Patrons at King’s Theatre in Annapolis Royal will have the pleasure on June 30 of hearing a local talent whose voice has taken him touring throughout Europe.

Paul O’brien is based in Bridgetown yet his voice has touched that hearts of listeners across the world.

Originally from the UK, O’brien is known for emotionally charged performances. The Celtic feel of his music is nuanced and contemporary, reaching past confirmed Celtic enthusiast to anyone within earshot, transfixing them with the raw feeling his songs carry. While staying true to the acoustic tradition, O’brien infuses a freshness and relevance in his music that connects with the current while still honouring tradition.

Paul will be joined by a team of Nova Scotian musicians welcoming him into the local music scene the best way they know how - by playing right beside him. Jeff Hennessy will be accompanying on the piano, while Ken Shorley will be on percussion, Scott Henderson on pipes and flute, and Nicholas D’amato on bass.

CD Release

O’brien will also have his official CD release at King’s Theatre on June 30, playing new songs from his CD in his set and celebrating the work he has done on this album produced by one of Nova Scotia’s favourite musicians, JP Cormier.

Also on stage will be O’brien’s daughter Millie. She’ll be flying in from the West Coast to accompany her father on vocals. A full stage with a full ensemble, the intimate King’s Theatre will be filled to the rafters with warmth and cheer as musicians and patrons alike welcome Paul O’brien to the community.

O’brien’s music is steeped in tradition, with all his stories coming from the heart but also from the real world. It is real folk music in the tradition of singersongwriters like Dave Gunning. O’brien seeks to keep storytelling alive with his music, setting to song real life situations and emotions to connect the stories with audiences that will never forget them.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the box office at 902-532-7704 or online at HYPERLINK “http://kingstheatre. ca/” kingsthe
