Threats, assault charges faced in court

Assaulted police officer, uttered threat

Randall Henry Prime, 48, of Greenwich, has been handed a conditiona­l sentence order and has been sentenced to probation for assaulting a member of the Kentville Police Service engaged in the execution of his duty and uttering a threat to cause bodily harm or death to two members of the Kentville Police Service.

Prime changed his pleas to guilty to the two charges on June

25. Judge Alan Tufts handed Prime a 60-day conditiona­l sentence order with daily curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the entire time, to be followed by 12 months of probation.

Prime committed the offences in Kentville on April 28, 2017. A charge of carrying a concealed weapon was dismissed on June

25. A charge of unlawfully possessing hydromorph­one was adjourned to July 30 for dispositio­n.

Suspended sentence for assault

Gregory Robert Ricketts, 22, of Wilmot, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for committing an assault.

Ricketts changed his plea to guilty on May 15 and the matter was adjourned to June 25 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Alan Tufts handed Ricketts a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation and fined him $100 in victim surcharges. The court granted a secondary DNA order.

Ricketts committed the offence in Greenwood on Sept. 9, 2017.

Undertakin­g offences

Robert Patrick Riley, 28, of Auburn, has been fined and handed a suspended sentence with probation for five counts of failing to comply with his undertakin­g.

Riley pleaded guilty to three counts on May 22. The matters were adjourned for sentencing. Riley pleaded guilty to the other two counts on June 25. Judge Alan Tufts fined Riley $104 on each of the first three counts, for a total of $312 in fines, and handed him a suspended sentence with 12 months of probation on the other two counts.

Riley committed the offences in Auburn between April 14 and 16 and on May 4 and 5, 2017; and in Halifax on Dec. 10 and 14, 2017. Another count of failing to comply with his undertakin­g was withdrawn on June 25.

Refused to provide blood samples

Stephen Alan Dorey, a.k.a. Stephen Alan Smith, 34, of Meadowvale, has been fined for refusing to comply with a demand made to him by a police constable - an evaluation officer - to provide samples of his blood for analysis to determine whether he had a drug in his body.

Dorey pleaded guilty to the charge on June 25. Judge Alan Tufts fined Dorey a total of $1,300 and imposed a one-year driving prohibitio­n against him. Dorey will be eligible for the ignition interlock device program after three months.

Dorey committed the offence in Kingston on Aug. 22, 2017.
