Garden party to focus on Valley Hospice

-

Gardens have long been a feature of the peaceful support that a hospice provides, so it is fitting that Dr. Bill Beveridge has opened his gardens overlooking Blomidon and the Fundy Shore.

The gesture is to be enjoyed by anyone who is interested in visiting and to help the Valley Hospice.

On July 14, Beveridge plans to host a garden party at his home in Blomidon from 2 to 5 p.m. where there will be opportunity for the public to speak with members of the Valley Hospice team and learn more about the residential hospice soon to be built on the grounds of Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville.

There will be guided tours of the arboretum, music, refreshments and people are encouraged to pack a picnic and enjoy the scenery of the area from the garden.

Beveridge wanted to host a garden party for several reasons. The house and grounds have been in his family since 1953. His grandfather planted trees and had orchards and strawberries. His parents did professional landscaping, principally with Tim Amos, and later Kjeri Hjelkrem. The largest part of the garden is an arboretum with about 200 varied trees, some of which are native. Beveridge has maintained and added to the site.

“I believe in the importance of a hospice for our community,” said Beveridge. “I think it important professionally and socially for us to know what this is about. I particularly wanted to honour a good friend, Dr. Jim Perkin, who worked hard on this project before his recent passing.”

“A Garden Party” is open to all ages. The event will take place at 1615 Pereau Rd. in Blomidon on July 14. The rain date is July 15. A free-will offering for the Valley Hospice is encouraged.
