Annapolis Royal’s first Pride Day set for July 21

The province’s smallest town will be celebratin­g Pride Day in a big way July 21 with a ton of events including opening ceremonies, a new rainbow crosswalk dedication, celebratio­ns

A unique opportunit­y presented itself recently.

The antique car drive took place from the Apple Capital Museum at the farm market, and a parade of celebrants and cyclists through town.

Mayor Bill Macdonald said events start at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony at the amphitheat­re followed by a parade of Pride

on July 11, and I had a drive in a 1930 Essex. The owner of the antique was from Centrevill­e. There were owners from various places including as far away as Yarmouth and PEI.

The Windermere Jammers entertaine­d on one side of the museum and Amanda Furniss and Caitlin Strong sang on the other side. There were strawberry and chocolate sundaes available and tours of the museum. The people celebrants, supporters, and ‘Valley Pride Ride’ cyclists down St. George Street to King’s Theatre plaza for dedication of the Rainbow Crosswalk.

That’s followed by the opening of ‘Pride Day at the Farmers & Traders

giving drives were busy between here and going to the Grand View Manor for two hours in the afternoon giving nostalgic drives to the residents.

Several family members joined children at a pool party at the home of Shawn Richardson and Kat Mac Isaac earlier this month.

The occasion was the celebratio­n of their daughter Brea’s sixth birthday. There were hot Market’ with town crier Peter Davies leading the celebrants and cyclists through the market. Cyclists will meet up with police who will escort them to the head of the Harvest Moon Trail by the old railway Station for the start of the Valley

dogs, veggie and fruit trays, and, of course, birthday cake – a princess birthday cake. Brea received many lovely gifts which she adored. As well as playing in the pool, the children had a bouncy slide and many other toys to amuse them. ***

July 20 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. - Little Ray’s Reptiles. Come and see the snakes and more at the Pride Ride from Annapolis Royal to Wolfville.

Pride Day events include rainbow face painting, free rainbow stickers and ribbon bracelets at the amphitheat­re, the market and the Women’s Place.

Berwick Library. Recommende­d for ages three and older.

July 24 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. - Zoo Days at Oaklawn Zoo. Ages 18 and younger can show their AVRL library card for a free entry.

July 26 at 6 p.m. - Meet at Rainforth Park to follow the newest Story Walk over to the library, where there will be snacks and crafts. All ages welcome.

July 28 - The Berwick townwide yard sale takes place.
