It was an even split for the hosting Central Kings team at the school’s third annual preseason invitational tournament Sept. 14 and 15.

The Gators won two games and lost two. Hannah Cameron was the leading scorer for the hosts, with two goals in the tournament, while Chloe Coombs, Macy Chiasson and Maddie Ross each scored once.

Six teams signed on for the competition: Central Kings, Northeast Kings, Horton, New Germany, Forest Heights and Yarmouth.

Joanne Fairfax coaches CK’S senior girls’ team along with Vicki Fraser Slipp, Alana Fairfax and Carrie Wood.

“We are very pleased with the CK team’s performance,” she said.

The team will travel to Digby for the Gators’ first league game Sept. 21. Fairfax is excited to have two Central Kings graduates who won multiple Division 2 provincial championships during their time at the school coaching from the sidelines this season.

“Our team is pleased to welcome Alana Fairfax back as an assistant coach. She has experience playing many years with Valley United, NS provincial teams, the NS Canada Games team and five years with Acadia University, as well as playing two years in Ottawa,” said Joanne Fairfax.

“We are very happy to have Carrie Wood work with our goalies this season. Carrie also played with Valley United, was involved a bit with the NS provincial program and played nets for Acadia University for five years. Carrie is presently the goalie coach for the Acadia women’s team.”

The players are sure to benefit from having strong role models to learn from this season, she added.

Horton and Northeast Kings advanced to the final in the Central Kings tournament, with the Griffins emerging victorious with a 3-1 win.
