Kentville police officer recognized for finding, dousing garage fire

A police officer has been recognized for preventing what could have become a structure fire at a home in downtown Kentville.

Const. Kevin Lutz received a certificat­e of recognitio­n from the Town of Kentville after he discovered a garage on fire at a home on Main Street near Elm Avenue in August.

Lutz noticed a strange smell at about 1 a.m. while working an overnight shift and drove around until he found its source – a garage on fire near a house. He parked his car and immediatel­y called for backup, and noticed the family was still inside as he worked to extinguish the fire.
