Four wins, one loss in five games

Central Kings’ senior boys’ basketball team has busy week

The Central Kings Gators’ senior boys’ basketball team had a very busy week, playing five games in six days but put together a fourwin, one-loss record.

The Gators played host to Annapolis West Educational Center in an exciting, hard-fought match that saw Central Kings come away with a 93-92 overtime victory.

Alex Parnell led the Gators’ attack, scoring 31 points. Lance Keddy added 15, Nolan “Oggie” Ogden had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isaac Moores had 11 points as well.

Point guard Nathan Parnell also had a strong game, serving up five assists and grabbing five rebounds.

The boys then were in Middleton to take on MRHS and lost by an 84-77 score. Nathan Parnell and Alex Parnell had 17 points each in the loss.

In addition, the Gators played in the West Kings District High Schools annual Clary Laing Invitational Tournament. The tournament featured eight teams from across Nova Scotia.

In their opening match the Gators defeated Horton High School JV boys by a 74-70 score. The Gators had a 21-point half time lead and held off a strong comeback by the Horton squad for the win.

Alex Parnell had 22 points in the win to earn player of the game honors.

The win advanced the CK boys to the tournament semifinals and a rematch against the Middleton Regional High School Monarchs.

This game went back and forth with some very intense moments late in the game. The Gators rallied late in the fourth quarter for a 74-62 win. Alex Parnell had 22 points, Lance Keddy had 19 points and Gabriel Leoni had 10 points.

David MacLean earned player of the game honours for his strong play at both ends of the floor.

The Gators faced Ecole du Sommet of Halifax in the tournament final and used some strong foul shooting down the stretch to earn the Championship title. The final score was 82-72 for CK. Lance Keddy led the Gators, scoring 24 points including making 10 of his 11 foul shots.
