A 56-year-old Upper Granville man is in custody and charged with four counts of attempted murder and numerous weapons offences following an incident that police say involved another man smashing a window to escape.

Andrew Leroy Peach faces a total of 18 charges after an 8:04 p.m. 911 call alerted police to an alleged incident at a house on the edge of Highway 1 on Jan 2.

“The caller indicated the suspect had shot at him twice while the two men were in a home,” said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke in a media release. “The caller escaped the home by breaking a window and climbing out. No one else was in the home at the time.”

She said RCMP arrived on the scene a short time later and attempted to contact the suspect.

“He exited the residence and was holding a shotgun,” Clarke said. “Police officers directed him to drop it, however, he fired one shot towards them and quickly reentered the home. He came out of the home a few seconds later, with the shotgun still in his hand, and when directed to do so, dropped it to the ground.”

Clarke said the shotgun discharged a second round towards the home when it struck the ground. “No one was hurt as a result of this incident,” she said. “Peach was taken into custody without further incident.”

Police said he was taken to Bridgetown RCMP cells and was held in custody overnight and appeared in court on Jan. 3. He was held in custody until an additional court appearance in Digby Jan. 4. He has been charged with: - Attempted murder with a fire- arm (four counts)
