Wildcats sign 2018 QMJHL first rounder

Valley acquires rights to Alex Drover from Saint John Sea Dogs

- BERWICK

The Valley Wildcats have signed free-agent forward Alex Drover, whose Quebec Major Junior Hockey League rights are owned by the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The 16- year- old Port aux Basques, N.L. native was drafted by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 10th overall in the 2018 QMJHL entry draft last June and was dealt to the Sea Dogs on Dec. 16. The centreman played in 26 games for Cape Breton, tallying three goals and eight

assists and has registered a goal in three games with Saint John.

He spent the 2017-18 season with the Halifax McDonald’s of the NSMMHL, where he collected 27 goals and 30 assists, earning rookie of the year honours.

Drover is expected to join the Maritime Hockey League’s Wild- cats for games on Jan. 11 and 12.

“We’ve very happy to work out a deal with Saint John to acquire Alex’s Maritime league rights and provide him the ice time he needs to develop,” said Wildcats general manager and coach Nick Greenough. “It’s not every day you’re able to add a first-rounder from the Q and we expect Alex will provide some much-needed scoring punch.”

Tickets to Wildcats home games are available by calling 902-698-9913 or going to whamilton@valleywildcats.com. They can also be purchased at the box office prior to game time.
