Western Kings 4-H report
Western Kings 4-H Club members recently began the new 2019-20 4-H year with a barbecue and information session for all new and returning members.
During the business meeting, we congratulated Andrew Murray, who was the Kings County Junior Giant Radish Champion. Congratulations were extended to everyone who won and participated at the NS 4-H Show. There was a great turnout and everyone seemed to have a terrific time.
Our annual County Awards Night was held Oct. 19. There was lots of delicious food and fun. Thank you to everyone who came out and congratulations to all the winners. Special congratulations to Sophia Clarke, who received the F. Waldo Walsh Memorial trophy as Kings County’s Most Outstanding Senior Member, and Emilee Hirtle, who shared the Heidi Daniels Memorial Spirit award. I was also fortunate to share the Top Club Reporter award.
Also in October we had a booth at the Berwick Health and Wellness Fair. Members shared information about their part in the 4-H program and how they learned by doing, as the 4-H motto states.
The Clean Annapolis River Project partnership is moving forward. We are putting up signs this month, one in
Aylesford and the other in Cambridge. More details will follow.
The month of November is 4-H month. We plan to show our 4-H colours throughout the month, so watch for green 4-H gear. We will also be bringing some baked treats to a local radio station. Another special activity is planned for our November meeting. We will be bringing non-perishable food bank items to take to the Berwick Food Bank.
Our 4-H club is introducing a buddy system for all members new to 4-H this year. This means experienced 4-H families are encouraged to help support new families by helping answer questions and offering a hand of friendship to newcomers. New members are still welcome. Contact Mary at 902-538-8559 if you are interested. Happy 4-H Month!
