Kings County man charged in January 2021 armed robbery

Annapolis District RCMP has charged a 21-year-old man in connection with an armed robbery in Middleton in January 2021.

In a Dec. 22 release, RCMP said Hayden Locas of Kings County was arrested and charged with armed robbery on Dec. 13. Police said Locas

was identified as a suspect after an investigat­ion into a robbery at a convenienc­e store on Main Street in Middleton, which RCMP said happened on Jan. 4, 2021, around 12:45 a.m.

Police said the man entered the store, demanded money from the clerk, and became aggressive, brandishin­g a knife before grabbing cash from the till and cigarettes and fleeing the store.

There were no injuries from the incident.

Locas was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Annapolis Royal provincial court on Feb. 23 to face a charge of armed robbery.

2021 were recently released Dec. 30 by Nova Scotia’s Registry of Vital Statistics. The list showed there were 54 babies named Olivia followed by Jack (50), Noah (48), Oliver (46), Owen

(46), Levi (44), Ava (41), Henry (41), Benjamin (39), and William (39). There were 6,946 registered births in Nova Scotia in 2021 as of Dec. 29.

Nova Scotia began formally registerin­g births on Aug. 1, 1864, and the most popular names that year were Mary and John. Oliver was the top baby name in 2020.

The province said in a news release the most popular names usually remain consistent over the years. There are a few new names gaining popularity such as Aurora, Declan and Bennett, with some old favourites coming back like Liam and Charlotte.
