Cheers to the U Sports men’s hockey championship being moved to Wolfville after a scheduling conflict made hosting it in Halifax impossible.

These events traditionally go to big centres, where more revenue can be brought in through ticket sales and sponsorships. This might be the last time an event of this nature comes to the Kings County community, and we think there will be a special buzz around town for the Cavendish Farms University Cup, March 31 to April 3. It is a win for the Annapolis Valley, a region that has shown its support for the Acadia Axemen program for generations. “We have an extremely loyal fanbase,” head coach Darren Burns said. While there may not be as many opportunities for fans to attend the games as there would have been at Scotiabank Centre in the city, we are glad the event found a home in Wolfville. We only hope the health situation continues to improve to allow organizers to fill the rink when the puck drops.

Jeers to Old Man Winter. He has done a number on the roads this winter with the roads, showing the impacts of the thermometer doing a yo-yo impression. Take a drive throughout the region and you will see the spring slalom in full effect as motorists try to avoid the next crater.

Cheers to FarmWorks Investment Co-operative Limited, which continues to help businesses grow across the province, including right here in the Annapolis Valley. More than 450 people have purchased more than $4 million worth of shares in the previous 10 offerings to the community. Those people see the advantages of the Community Economic Development Investment Fund and supporting local. The local directors have done a great job investing in businesses that have grown and the loans paid back. The next offering is open until March 1.

Jeers to those who think they have the right to send suspicious packages to politicians’ offices. Nova Scotia RCMP have tested the packages and identified the presence of a substance. The substance does not contain any chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive agents, but the packages have been sent to Edmonton for further testing. We can only hope the person or people responsible are found and brought to justice. There are ways of showing your displeasure with government decisions. This isn’t it.
