Sprinter Lillian Lawrence’s next steps on her athletic journey will take her to Fredericton, N.B.

The 18-year-old Bridgetown native recently committed to the UNB Reds track and field team as part of their 2022 recruiting class.

“I’m hard-working, dedicated, and self-disciplined,” Lawrence said in a recent news release. “I’ll bring a positive attitude to practices and meets, and I love to cheer everybody on. A strong team environment is very important to me, and I am excited to train with such a great group of athletes.”

Lawrence is a Grade 12 student at Bridgetown Regional Community School and a veteran member of the Annapolis County Athletics club program.

“Lillian comes from great club and school programs,” said Chris Belof, head coach of the Reds track and field team. “She has a huge ceiling and will continue to grow each year. We expect her to play an important role with our women’s team and their continued improvement in the Atlantic conference.”

At the 2019 Athletics Nova Scotia outdoor championships, Lawrence finished second in the women’s 100 metres and third in the 200 metres. Also in 2019, she was named the junior female athlete of the year at Bridgetown School and intermediate track and field MVP.

“We expect Lillian to be an immediate contributor to our sprint relay program,” Belof said. “Lillian is a great fit with our team culture. She’s strong academically, very hard-working, and has demonstrated success at the provincial level.”

Lawrence, who will be studying science at UNB while competing in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference, said improving her strength and lowering her times are among her shortterm goals.

“Long-term, I’d like to be on the podium at the AUS championships.”
